Some Halloween costumes are always popular

Trendy Halloween costumes come and go, as styles emerge and become popular before disappearing over time. Many of these costumes are patterned after movies that are well-known at the time, but their popularity fades along with the notoriety of the movie.

However, there are those costumes that endure year after year and appear on the shelves of your local department stores and in specialty shops every Halloween. Popular culture dictates the new and trendy costumes that show up every year alongside the old standbys.

Purchasing a trendy Halloween costume means you're in style (at least for the current year), but you are always taking a chance that you will never again want to wear this costume that is a potential passing fad. What are some popular Halloween styles for adults and kids that are sure to be in style this year or for years to come?

Traditional Halloween Costumes

Many traditional Halloween costumes have proven themselves and will always be accepted on a dark Halloween night. What better way to join in the scary tradition of Halloween as a vampire, ghost, or wicked witch? Dark figures such as the grim reaper, mummy, or any creature of gloom and doom will always be an acceptable Halloween costume.

Other popular traditional costumes are superheroes. Like scary costumes, superhero costumes are appropriate for children as well as adults. Spiderman fits a toddler as well as an adult male. This wall-climbing superhero has enjoyed continual popularity over the years. Superman and Batman are always popular, as are their counterparts for females in Batgirl or Batwoman. Star Wars characters have been and continue to be popular.

Disney characters never go out of style, either. Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, Snow White, and Belle from Beauty and the Beast are just a few examples. Depending on what movie version is out at the time, such as with Snow White, the costume may change from the traditional Disney version.

Trendy Halloween Costumes

In recent years, characters from the movies Twilight and Harry Potter have turned into popular Halloween costumes. Kids now want to be Captain America from The Avengers movie. Currently, it may not be good enough just to be a pirate, as Captain Jack from Pirates of the Caribbean is a more popular choice. Other pop culture transformations into this fall holiday are the resurgence of zombies and the appearance of Angry Birds. And, yes, all of these costumes are made for both adults and children.

With a new Toy Story movie coming out, expect to see more Halloween costumes representing Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang. The old blue Smurfs are making a comeback since their movie release in 2011.

With any new movie release, the public can expect a new onslaught of Halloween costumes. Whether their popularity endures the test of time remains to be seen.

Popular brands of Halloween costumes

Many stores carry two of the very popular brands of Halloween costumes, specifically “Totally Ghoul” and “California Costumes Collections.” Boys can expect to find popular costumes such as Nintendo’s Super Mario, Captain America, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Girls’ costumes range from the innocent little red riding hood to the devilish cheerleader. Grown women can turn into fair maidens, tawdry showgirls, or female prisoners. Interesting men’s costumes include the flamboyant court jester, the righteous monk, and the huge inflatable sumo wrestler.

California Costumes Collections includes a variety of costumes, including Disney. They have a variety of general costumes such as vampires, prisoners, princesses, clowns, and kitty cats. Between these two brands, trick-or-treaters or Halloween party-goers are sure to find costumes that appeal to them.
