6 Best Reasons for Writers to Join HubPages
83Best Reasons to Join HubPages
There are many reasons for writers to join HubPages. Although many writers—including me—initially look to HubPages as a way to make money with our writing, it is really much, much more. Building residual income may be the first reason aspiring writers join, but it is not the only, and, arguably, not the best reason to join HubPages.
1. Building Residual Income on HubPages
Yes, everybody signs up to earn income on HubPages. Even though it starts as pennies, there are promises—and actual success stories on HubPages—that residual income will really happen. HubPages does showcase success stories, and I have heard personally from writers who do make at least several hundreds of dollars of passive income per month. Others profess to make much more than that. Sure, it takes a lot of work, but success is attainable.
2. Learning from Other Writers' Work
To stay involved in HubPages, it is important to read other writers’ hubs. To some, this may seem like a chore, and that may be the case when a hubber is really busy with other things, but your involvement with other writers in HubPages is essential to your success. Knowing other hubbers gets readership to your own work. And it's important to look at all these different writers and their unique work. Reading others' work is a great way to know what to write about and how to write it. We can learn a lot from what other writers are interested in and how they attract readers. I also enjoy learning different writing styles from other hubbers--especially those that use lots of humor in their hubs. That's something I personally want to work on. Reading other writers' work can definitely inspire your own writing.

3. Learning about Online Writing
Learning about online writing is important, as the wave of the future seems to be moving online. Writers have more opportunities online than they used to, and perhaps even more than what they would have in print. HubPages offers a great opportunity to be able to publish articles (or hubs) online.
Since I've been writing online, I've learned about SEO (still learning!) and how to try to bring more traffic to my hubs. I've learned about backlinking and how to link to other sites. I'm learning that using referral trackers can bring even additional traffic to my articles. I'm learning about all kinds of writing and sharing websites, such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Reddit, Pinterest, and more! There is so much to learn about writing online, and, as it appears to be the wave of the future for writers, it's good for writers to embrace it and learn as much as we can. There is so much to learn here on HubPages. And it's a free service!

4. Getting Feedback and Suppport from Other Writers
It is a wonderful feeling to get your first comment on your first hub on HubPages. After joining, writers follow other writers they find interesting, and writers continue to publish hubs. Writers give each other support and feedback, which is enough to make one giddy. A lasting effect is definitely the self-esteem imparted to the new writer. Getting involved in a supportive community of writers is one of the greatest perks at HubPages.
5. Building Your Writing Platform
When you think that your hubs aren’t earning enough, think about residual income, about learning from other writers, about the wonderful community you’re in, but also think about this: you are building a portfolio of articles for yourself that you may otherwise not have done. Just being a part of HubPages is enough to put some needed pressure on writers to write. You feel like you need to contribute, so you write more than you normally would. And what you write will probably gain some online popularity over time, bringing you more traffic, money, and notoriety. You are building a name for yourself. And if you ever want to unpublish your hubs to publish elsewhere, you can. Who knows when all your poems, your recipes, your stories, your tips on raising pets, or other niches will evolve into a published book?

6. A Major HubPages Bonus: Meeting New Friends!
On HubPages, you meet a lot of friends in your community of writers. These friends will not only read your hubs and give you feedback, but they are also wonderful to offer advice and support. And who knows? Perhaps a future bonus will be meeting them one day face-to-face. Or maybe getting a complimentary copy of their books in the future, along with the proof that you knew them when….
HubPages is an enjoyable endeavor, if nothing else. If you've been here any length of time at all, you know that. Keep the benefits in mind, and, in the meantime, write and read. Keep on hubbing!

I joined for a writing platform to voice my advocacy for causes I strongly believe in. I also joined for stress therapy. I never imagined I would meet so many awesome people from around the world...I did and I am extremely thankful. If I didn't join I probably never would have met my favorite grammar geek:)
I really like Cyndi's comment about HP being an online home!!
Love it Vicki!
They are awesome tips to join hubpages and I agree 100% on them :)
voted up with awesome, useful, interesting!
Victoria Lynn - great hub Vicki! I have to agree with cclitgirl. I joined for the opportunity to write and earn additional income. I love everything on your numbered list - #6 certainly took me by surprise - a pleasant surprise. I never expected to gain a circle of awesome friends and fun writing companions. I do not regret signing up. Your hub is interesting and helpful to those that are considering HP. I look forward to seeing the various responses on this comment thread.
great job - voted up
Awesome Hub Victoria, Thank you for the tips! It is true that the learning from other writers and the friendships are great!
Voted up.
All the points are very true. I came to hubpages because of point number 2. I'm on hubpages because of point number 3. I'll be hanging around here because of point number 5.
Thanks for sharing this useful and informative article.
Well, I like the money part the best. But the other reasons are just as valid. Voting this Up and Useful.
I joined Hubpages because my boss tasked me to do so. He thought that it will increase our dwindling leads that moment. It's been almost a year, I am no longer working for my boss but I am still here.
BTW, all your points are true. But me, I stayed here because I want to learn more about online writing and SEO.I agree, you shouldn't join HP if you just want residual income. HP is a great community where people of the same interest mingle with each other. Thus, it involves participation by following others, asking and answering questions, joining forums and more.
I definitely think this is the BEST site for self publishing, but I also think that anyone who's spending a lot of time here should also be branching out some.
For instance - you can join the other similar sites, and link to them from hubpages, strengthening the whole of your work.
I've been on blogger and info barrel for a long long time, and those are both great sites -and each has it's pluses and minuses - but having eggs in more baskets is best.
This was an inspirational Hub for any Hubber, and a good review for potential new ones! Great job, thanks!Voted up and shared!
this is very good advice. I think it should be read by more people who are thinking about joining. Great work. voted useful and up.
Great hub!
This was a wonderful Hub filled with good information. Thank you! Voted up!
Victoria, glad to see you becoming so succesful! Sorry if I didn't come around that much. But I know you were around us. This hub is...as I see it, written from your heart and well deserves consideration and I applaud your words. So many of us started with just a mind, these fingers and our ownself. This journey has been therapeutical for me and for so many. We hope to see Vicky Hodge for a long time. Will be your fault if I get a Puppy like yours... no seriously! Animals are better companion than any one of us. AEvans has 4, so 1 won't hurt. Thanks for being a wonderful woman and a fellow writer, whom I'm learning a lot.

Great reasons, Victoria! I agree with all of your points here. I joined initially for the money, but like many here, I have also stayed because of the community. I love being part of such a friendly, talented group of writers.
I joined hubpages to polish my writing skill and enjoy the challenge. The bonus is that I have met some really wonderful people and read some really great hubs. I have to admit the possibility of earning an income over time is another good reason to join. Voted up!
Hey Vicki. Great hub, just made me reflect on why I joined hubpages in the first place. I was looking for another source of income but that has now become second rate as I enjoy meeting other writers and learning from them.Great hub
Thanks Vicki for writing this, it will definitely come in useful to new hubbers and even some older ones. A friend invited me to read her work here on hubpages, she did not know how deep I was into writing. When I realized what hubpages was all about I could not believe the blessing it was because I have been writing since I was 9 years old. I hope to publish a novel sooner than later, but I am moving into full gear in writing because that is my main calling and money comes second. If I work well and give the world what I should, I am certain beyond reasonable doubt that I will be repaid in full!
Yes friend...glad to have friends like you and all at HP. You really are a blessing for us...your friends. Keep those hubs coming.

Great hub! Very informative and useful tips. Especially, for everyone new or those who haven't been here that long.
Voted useful!
Great hub and very insightful. Hubpages does start as an income idea, then grows on you, and becomes a part of your life. I love the inspiration, the different perspectives, the motivation and the challenge of hubpages. Hubbers are the best! Thanks for a great hub-
I am so blessed to have found Hub pages at the encouragement of another author. Yes I have written a small inspirational book and that has been a wonderful ministry for me. Hub is different for me in so many ways, here I have found a healing and enjoyable outlet in my writing. I am not pressured to do it in a timely manner. It flows as life and experiences and moments occur. It is so nice to read others work and be able to share and learn together. The diversity is so amazing. I have shared with others the excitement of allowing your thoughts to flow and also communicate with others of similar interest. It is also very interesting and educational to learn others opinions and gain knowledge in areas I did not even realize may interest me. I have found myself encouraging others to use this tool for their own writing. I enjoy the people and their strong passion for writing and sharing. Hubs has been a blessing to my life ~
Just sayin! Have a fabulous day Blessing
Hi Victoria. I must admit that when I first stumbled on this website, the thought that I could make money from writing about what I'm passionate was too much to resist. However, after two months, I've found that hubpages is so much more, this is probably the friendliest place you could possibly go on the Internet. Best decision I've ever made. Thank you and voted up etc.
Amazing Hub! I never quite thought about why I wanted to write for Hubpages until now. I love writing period, but with Hubpages, I have found freedom unlike no other. I've been writing for websites such as Helium, Writersbay, Yahoo content. The money is good (when I work) but hubpages is different..
Great Hub! I'm bookmarking it!
Hi, this is great and oh so true! the funny thing is that I never realised how much I learned from reading other peoples hubs until a quiz comes on TV, then I am on a roll! haha! its amazing what your brain takes in! and of course all the great people on here too! voted up! cheers nell
I love how you highlight the community, and the benefits of writing within one like HubPages.
Great information. As a new hubber I have a lot to learn, and your hubs have been a great place to start. Thanks!
This was a good read Hub=pages is a interesting place.
Hi Victoria,
Vinaya's interview of you is what led me here. As to your hub...you have given excellent reasons for writers to join HubPages. In the poll, I would have clicked "all of the above" had it been available. Voted up and useful.
Hey Victoria, this is a great hub and these are all wonderful reasons to join and become an active member of hubpages. I have only really been active for the past few months but have really enjoyed the experience and it is great to be able to share ideas with likeminded people. Keep up the good work. Steve
That's so weird...I knew I commented on this hub. I see your response to me, yet I can't see my comment to you. This is a first. Hmmm? Anyway...I'm here again!:)

I love this, Vicki! Sure, I joined for the income potential, but when I started meeting so many neat, interesting people, I wanted to delve in even more. Great hub and beautifully written. HP is like an online home. :)
