Independence Day Poem for the Red, White, and Blue - Haiku about the Fourth of July
My Independence Day Haiku for the Fourth of July
Darkness, glaring red
Squealing bombs and tattered flag
Grateful hearts bursting
Whitney Houston sings the National Anthem: The Star Spangled Banner
Few things give me chills quite like hearing the United States' National Anthem on Independence Day, commonly referred to as the Fourth of July. Nobody has ever sung it better than did the late Whitney Houston before the Super Bowl in 1991. Her rendition went on to become a hit single on the Billboard charts. I remember buying the cassette single. (Remember those?) I wonder if I still have that.
Update: Yes, I still have that little cassette single--or cassingle, I guess you could say. I was going through some stuff from an old yard sale in the garage, and guess what I found? Woo hoo! Yeah, I think I'll keep that for the memories. I'm glad I still have that. It pays to be a pack rat.
