I'm sorry; I panicked - a poem about panic feelings
I’m sorry. I panicked.
I shouldn’t have yelled.
But when I saw him outside the gate--
Out from the back yard
(I’m so careful)
How can this be?
My heart jumped
And my brain raced back
To the time when he was small—
(Just a pup)
And flashed out the door
Barreling across the yard
Escaping my scrambling arms,
Ignoring my harried cries
(God, don’t let it happen)
Then stopping to sit,
Like a proud escapee,
Laughing at himself…
In THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.
I’m sorry…I panicked.
