What is the Best Easter Candy? My Letter to Hershey's Cadbury Eggs!
What is Your Favorite Easter Candy?
Without a doubt, my favorite Easter candy--or chocolate--is Cadbury. Cadbury eggs. I have heard people say that the white and yellow yolk-like substance on the inside grosses them out, but I love it. And the chocolate "shell" is divine. Those people don't know what they're talking about. Cadbury eggs are a little bit of Heaven coming down at Easter. I wait eagerly every year for these things. I used to stock up on them, stacking up multi-pack box after multi-pack box in my cabinets. As I’ve grown older, I refrain from doing that due to money and calories, but I haven’t lost my yearning for them.
In 1994, yes, nearly 18 years ago, I decided that enough is enough. Why do Cadbury egg lovers have to wait a whole year to get their fix on these eggs? So, I wrote a letter. I found an address on the Cadbury egg packaging, finding out that actually the Hershey Company makes Cadbury eggs. I didn’t know that, and it didn't stop me. I was ready to take on the empire of Hersheys themselves.
My Letter to the Hershey Company Regarding Cadbury Eggs
Confident in my mission to achieve Cadbury creations for everyone throughout the year, (well, truly to satisfy my own decadent cravings), I penned the following letter to the Hershey Company.
July 16, 1994
Dear Cadbury,
As an avid fan of Cadbury’s Crème Eggs, this letter’s purpose is, hopefully, to bring to your attention the burning question of all Cadbury egg fans: Why only once a year?
My best friend and I long for these delectable treats all year long and start counting down the months in January with eager anticipation. Nothing else gives us the fulfillment that do these creamy, chocolaty, perfect creations.
My question is: Can’t this delightful concoction be introduced at other times of the year? Think of it: Cadbury party hats, Cadbury hearts, Cadbury shamrocks, Cadbury firecrackers, Cadbury pumpkins, Cadbury turkeys, and Cadbury Santas, to name a few ideas. I think that Cadbury specials could be created for nearly every month of the year, with just a little thought.
Trust me when I say that Cadbury egg fans are die-hards. You would have a loyal following. Please, for the sake of Cadbury lovers, consider the possibilities.
Yours Truly,
Vicki

Hershey's Response?
First, looking back, I must say that my going on about potential Cadbury delights was a precursor to Forrest Gump’s Bubba Gump’s shrimp monologue. Think they got the idea from my letter? Well, no, because my letter went nowhere! Well, not literally. It did get to the company.
Wouldn’t you think a lush, chocolate-loving company would respond to such a heartfelt letter? Wouldn’t you think that they would be stumbling all over each other to see who could hurry and come up with those Independence Day Cadbury flags? And Cadbury groundhogs for GroundHog Day? The possibilities are endless, really!
Well, they did respond, but not in the way I was hoping. At least they did send me a letter back. For that, I was pleased. At least my outcries weren’t totally ignored. I do have the letter tucked away somewhere where I can’t find it. The company probably wouldn’t want their response shared with the world, anyway . . . their shameful failure to embrace my suggestions.

Cadbury Egg Lovers Unite!
Oh, Hersheys wasn't ugly about it. The letter just said something about how they appreciated my suggestions, but that they have their own team of people who come up with ideas...yadda yadda. Yawn. Basically, it was their nice, vague way of saying that they didn’t care about my idea. My marvelous, life-changing, world-changing idea. They had their chance. And when I see Cadbury pumpkins and Cadbury shamrocks out on the shelves, I'll know where the idea came from. We have proof right here, folks!
So here I am again at Easter time. I had two Cadbury eggs today—one original and one chocolate crème. At least Hershey’s did branch out and add the chocolate and caramel versions. Oh, and the mini Cadbury eggs! These are great when I want only a little Cadbury treat. But there is so much more they could do. What about peanut butter filled Cadbury eggs?
And can we please, please, for the love of all things deliciously decadent, revisit Cadburys for all holidays, all seasons…? It’s the 21st century. Isn’t it time to branch out? Who is with me? Any Cadbury lovers out there? Maybe we can start a petition letter to Hershey’s to urge their reconsideration.
At the very least, maybe you could leave your opinion in my comment section, below. I’m off to have another Cadbury egg. A mini this time.
