Things to Mix with Cottage Cheese
Non-fruit Additions to Cottage Cheese
While there are many well-known foods that can be mixed with cottage cheese, I prefer the non-fruity ones. Most of us have heard of cottage cheese with peaches, for example, but how many people enjoy cottage cheese with something salty like green olives? I do! If you’re a cottage cheese lover, I dare you to try the following cottage cheese mixers.
My Favorite Cottage Cheese Mixture
Cottage Cheese and Tomatoes
Tomatoes, preferably straight from the garden, are my favorite food to mix with cottage cheese. Chop up the tomatoes, twist some pepper onto them, and mix up with the cottage cheese. The flavors on the palate are absolutely divine. In the wintertime, go for grape or cherry tomatoes, which carry their flavor pretty well throughout the weather--when other tomatoes don't. This mixture is, by far, my favorite cottage cheese mixture.
Cottage Cheese and Crackers
Saltine crackers, you ask? Yes, try it. Crumble up the crackers in your cottage cheese, and voila! The saltiness of the crackers is a delightful addition to the mix. I’ve even added in tomatoes with the crackers, as well, for a heartier meal. Yummy. I haven't tried other crackers--yet! But I do think that other crackers such as soda crackers or wheat thin type crackers would be tasty, too!
Cottage Cheese with Green Olives or Avocadoes
Cottage Cheese and Green Olives
Dumping green olives into my cottage cheese was an experiment for me. I was looking for something to mix with my cottage cheese and spied a few green olives left in the jar. I emptied them in and tried a spoonful…. Another great discovery of what to mix with cottage cheese!
Cottage Cheese and Avocado
Cut up a firm, ripe avocado and mix in with cottage cheese. Add ground cracked pepper. This is a yummy mixture if you like avocadoes!
What do you think about these combinations?
Cottage Cheese with Beans or Chili
You may have already discovered how wonderful cottage cheese tastes with many types of beans. Eat them side by side or mix together. Warm beans—try pinto, black, chili, western, or ranch beans—complement the cool creaminess of the cottage cheese. A very soothing and comforting dish.

Other Dessert Ideas for Cottage Cheese
Yes, you can add the ole standbys of chopped pineapples, oranges, peaches, strawberries, and other fruits. One thing I tried that might be considered unusual, but was absolutely amazing, was chocolate chips. Yes, chocoholics, drop some chocolate chips into your cottage cheese and indulge. All in all, I think all the recipes I've listed here are much better than the traditional fruity mixtures. For those of you who aren't crazy about mixing your fruit with cottage cheese, I'm sure you'll agree.

I love cottage cheese. Although I prefer mixing it with fruit, these are some good ideas to try someday. Last Thanksgiving I tried baking lasagna using cottage cheese. Different--but it worked!
Yum. I will definitely be trying some of these. Thanks for rekindling my forgotten passion for cottage cheese! =)'
I've never really liked cottage cheese with fruit. I usually eat it with fresh chives mixed in. But cottage cheese and olives? Now that I have to try!
Chocolate chips make for interesting flavors. It may not be for everybody, but I like to try different things! Especially since I'm a chocolate lover, too!
Yep, Turtlewoman, cottage cheese works in lasagna, although I prefer ricotta. I love cottage cheese plain or with the salty mixtures I've suggested. I guess I'm just not into fruit that much, so I ended up trying all these other combinations. See what you think!
RighterOne--You're welcome. Sometimes I forget about my passion for cottage cheese, until I buy some. Then I usually devour it within a day or two! :-)
Yeah, Deborah, I don't care much for fruit with cottage cheese, either. Fresh chives sound good! Yes, try the green olives. Delightful, I think!
I just picked up a container of cottage cheese for my hubby. He loves it plain with saltines but I will serve it with a twist such as tomato and pepper. I never thought of chocolate as an option; but since I am a chocoholic, I will give it a try. Voted up and useful.
Victoria, just back to say I am enjoying cottage cheese with olives as I type this! After reading your hub, I went to the grocery store to get cottage cheese (I had to go anyway) so I could try this for lunch. I think I've found a new favorite way to eat cottage cheese! Thanks.
I must say I like cottage cheese with pineapple and grated onion. It gives a terrific sweet and sour taste.
Thanks, teaches! Give it a try. And thanks for the votes!
Way to go, Deborah! I knew the green olives with cottage cheese would be a hit. It was for me! Glad you liked it! :-)
Interesting, Hawkesdream. Pineapple and onion??? I'll have to try it out of curiosity!
I love cottage cheese with fruit and will have to give some of these other suggestions a try. Thanks!
Try them, randomcreative!See what you think! Thanks!
Interesting. Guess what, my dinner this evening was that red/purple cabbage (cooked) and mixed with boiled eggs and cottage cheese, I truly enjoyed it. I could taste every recipe you suggest here just by reading it. Thanks for the ideas, I normally always have a lot of cottage cheese in my fridge and sometimes it goes to waste because the rest of my family do not really like it. I will serve it differently and let you know what they think. Thanks.
My cottage cheese never goes to waste, and it's just me eating it. That's how much I love it! Of course I don't buy it very often, because I eat it too fast. I love cooked cabbage. Maybe have to try your recipe! Sounds great. Yeah, let me know what they think if you have a chance. Thanks for the comments!
Oooh mmm VicLynn :) I love these ideas! I always mixed fruit with my cottage cheese (something I picked up from my diabetic dad - its his fave dish). I never thought to add tomatoes or crackers. I'll try it and pass the ideas to my dad too. Great information!
You go, Ardie! Try those tomatoes and crackers. They're the best. And, if you like green olives, yummy! hope you and your dad like some of these combinations!
I had never know about cottage cheese. I believe this cheese so delicious. Thanks for share with us and I know food suitable with cottage cheese. Rated up!
Prasetio
Yes, prasetio, check out cottage cheese if you have a chance. Thanks for reading and commenting!
I love cottage cheese or at least I did before giving up dairy(never mind that) lol but I used to eat it all the time. These are great ways to enjoy eating it..Thanks for sharing Victoria.
Take care,
Sunnie
I'm not a big fan of cottage cheese but my son recently started eating it. He's asked me several times what to eat or mix the cottage cheese with. I'll have him read your hub as you've offered some great suggestions here that I'm sure he'll like.
Oh, Sunnie, I would be so sad to give up dairy. Thanks for reading about cottage cheese, anyway. haha. I do appreciate it! :-)
Susan, I'd be curious as to whether or not your son likes the combinations or not. Thanks for reading and commenting and passing on the ideas! :-)
I love all these options, although I must confess I've never tried the chocolate chips. Cottage cheese is hard to find in Peru, so when I go back to the U.S. I eat lots of it. I wish I had a recipe for making cottage cheese! Thanks for sharing...voted up and useful.
vespawoolf--I would be sad if I couldn't find cottage cheese! Maybe you can google a recipe for it. Thanks for reading and voting.
Something to think about when thinking of new types of snacks. What a little imagination can do to food

I do eat cottage cheese with fruit and with tomatoes, but I haven't tried your other suggestions. They all sound very interesting - especially the suggestion to add chocolate chips to cottage cheese. I'll be trying the chocolate chip idea very soon, because I love chocolate!
