What is an HDTV?

HDTVs are everywhere, it seems, except for in my house! HDTV stands for high definition television. What exactly does that mean? Well, a high definition picture stands out. The colors and images come right at you. The contrast is much better than in the old TVs where the characters—the whole scene, really—looks flat. If you have seen a high definition TV, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

What do you need in order to get high definition?

I’m pretty electronically challenged when it comes to new inventions. I found out not too long ago that in order to receive a high definition picture, you have to have a compatible television, first of all. You can subscribe to a cable service that offers high definition television stations. Likewise, you can have an HD-ready TV with an external box. You can even pick up some high definition channels with an antenna! While I don’t know exactly how all of this works, I do know that you can’t have a twelve year old tube television like I do, no matter how many high definition channels your cable company offers, and expect to get a high definition picture. It’s just not happening with my heavyweight turn-of-the-century TV!

But my old TV still works!

I try to tell myself that there are many advantages to sticking with my big backed tube TV from the late 90s or early 2000s. It IS paid for, and if I ever want to replace it with another television of its type, the replacement cost will be dirt cheap. Heck—someone might even give me an old tube TV. I tell myself, too, that while my TV keeps on ticking, those fancy HDTVs are getting cheaper every year. This IS true! By the time my old tube TV goes out, it will be much less expensive to purchase an HDTV than it is today.

Is a Sony TV good?

While I tell myself that these are great reasons for putting off buying a high definition television, I admit that I would really like to have a television that offers high definition viewing. Still, I am hesitant. Being the frugal person I am, I am waiting for my twelve-year old (or older!) television to quit. Somehow, the old dinosaur refuses to die. Perhaps that is another advantage of keeping my antique tele, but it’s a reason that is getting kind of annoying.

My brother had a Sony HDTV for a while until it got wet in the trunk of his car. Shame on him! It was a great TV. Great picture, great sound. This was the first time I was truly fascinated by what high definition could offer. I would stare at the picture, with its crystal clear images and defined shapes, not even noticing what show was on. What a beautiful view! I was mesmerized.

Online electronics coupons can help save!

Maybe I’ll change my mind and go ahead and get an HDTV. I know that by shopping online, I can save even more with Sony Store deals. Online stores offer some great deals with Electronics Coupons, too, on other items I’m curious about, such as cameras, laptops, ipads, and cell phones. Products like these can be found at online stores such as SuperWarehouse, BoostMobile, Cellular Factor, Best Buy, and others.

I know an HDTV is in my future, although I still keep coming up with more advantages of keeping my old TV. Another one is that nobody will steal my television . . . even if they could lift it. Yep, it’s safe; nobody will steal it. Sometimes I sure wish somebody would!
